July Announcements, Kudos & Just For Fun
1965 Ford Mustang Fastback - Christine I.

Announcements & Observations: From Lanny N. regarding the Friday morning breakfast location change: “In spite of the fact that I haven’t been a regular for a while, I will miss knowing it was there. Are you aware that this completes the circle? We started the Roamin Angels at Humpty , it was around 1983, I believe. There were only 3 of us – Carman Clabo, Jim Bietz and myself. Shirley Telum was our waitress and we sat in the back booth. Soon we were joined by Ray Y., Rose S.,…

Bear River High School Shop Tour

After Breakfast Field Trip Friday, May 10, 2019 A bunch of us jumped at the opportunity to view the wood and metal shops at Bear River High School. We were greeted in the office by this (what I thought was a high school student ) young woman,  Morgan.  She has a masters degree from San Luis Obispo.  I was under the misconception that the Arts were cut in high school, but thankfully, that is not the case. Speaking for all of us, we were overwhelmed with how brilliant Morgan was. She ran both shops and a…

The Six Most Cost-Effective Performance Upgrades
Six Most Cost-Effective Performance Upgrades - Photo by BHeller

Kurt Ernst on May 21st, 2019 • Hemmings Daily If the first car race happened as soon as two primitive automobiles lined up next to one another, then the first performance modifications came shortly after that very contest. Most of us have been modifying vehicles for years, changing everything from carburetors to exhausts to steering wheels in search of some perceived performance advantage. It’s easy to spend money on upgrades, but less so determining which ones – generally speaking, of course – deliver the most bang for the buck. Below…

Memorial Day Ceremony
Memorial Day 2019 at Memorial Park Grass Valley

Monday, May 27, 2019 Over 200 people gathered at 11 a.m. Monday for a Memorial Day ceremony at Memorial Park in Grass Valley. Standing under cloudy skies, the Grass Valley crowd grew silent as 11 a.m. approached and bagpipes began to play. Will Buck, who retired from the Army as a chief warrant officer 2, said many people don’t understand the significance of Memorial Day. “People are forgetting perhaps the most hallowed holiday we have,” he said. In ones, twos or threes, representatives of military organizations honored their groups. They approached a wreath…

Maxwell Car Show
Maxwell Car show

Up early at 6:30am, we decided at the last minute to attend the Maxwell parade and car show. There is also a rodeo at the same time as the car show in the adjoining area. The Roamin Angels group who were going to drive to Maxwell together cancelled due to the inclement weather and high wind warning predictions. Our instructions were to sign in for the parade at 9:00am.  We made it to Maxwell (a small town off Interstate 5 near Williams).  There was lots of excitement for the children,…

Friday Morning Breakfast Guest
Ian with poster of 1941 KDF Type 60L built by Nazi Germany

May 17, 2019 Ian is a customer and car enthusiast who likes VWs. The picture you are looking at is not a VW but a 1941 KDF Type 60L built by Nazi Germany. Imagine the look of this vehicle …not to mention the engineering… compared with all the other boxish looking things of the late 30’s and early 40’s. Ian bought the poster (rare) and a manual showing the complete restoration and history of finding and identifying the vehicle. I think he said a dozen were made. The photo is of number…

Car Show, Beyond And More
Ray directing traffic at the down town Grass Valley car show May 4, 2019

Let’s begin by thanking Chal Dececco for attending the last car show meeting.  While we are focused on 4 Wheeled toys, Chal’s preference is the 2-wheel variety. Chal’s input and suggestions regarding attracting more Classic Bikes to our Cruisin the Pines 2019 adventure generated interest from the entire crowd. One interesting idea was to spread the Bike displays around through all the buildings we take over for the show.  Having bikes in all the buildings provides attractions in all the buildings as added incentive to tour the whole show. Again,…

New Club Website Coming In July
New Roamin Angels Website launching July 2019

Change can be difficult but sometimes it can also be exciting. Our Roamin Angels website was created in 2006. Over the years the internet technology changed but the website basically stayed the same. A few years ago, our club started taking car show applications online and it was well received. Now, with the progress in smartphone and tablets, many people are using those devices instead of their larger computers to access the internet. It’s time for the club’s website to come into the ‘brave new world’. With a clean, easy…
