Trailblazer Pizza Night – May 2021

Ray and Pat would like to thank the twenty-three friends & Roamin Angels that joined us for a fun evening at Trailblazers.  Lots of good food and visiting.  We discussed some of the coming events and would like to add more! Trailblazers served our group on the patio (no music) so we could enjoy one another’s conversations. Its starting to feel like maybe by this summer we will be almost back to some kind of normal.  So, please think of events, trips and local car shows and pass them on…

This Is High School Auto Shop?

George Woodward and Kelsey Langel invited me to spend the afternoon in the auto shop. I thought I was in a college environment as the class is almost three hours long and very detailed.  In this class students were taught to clean the main bearings and install after measuring. Ten boys and one girl were full of enthusiastic energy. The shop was beyond anything I had in High School with half a dozen car hoists, brake, wheel, valve grinder along with tons of other equipment. The instructor George Woodward is…

Retire Your Old American Flags Properly If you’re like me we all wear out a couple of American flags per year. Those flags need to be retired properly. Remember back to the Clubs Car show days and one of the popular events was Troop 855’s evening Flag retirement ceremonies. Those scouts collected and retired some 600-800 flags at each event. Nevada County approached me about including that as part of their upcoming “Military Appreciation Days”. Rather than just buying boxes I thought the more positive happenings would be if our…

The morning was a little cool and we were all glad we brought a jacket or sweat shirt to wear.  But then the clouds went away and it was in the 80’s.  Perfect weather for a car show.   The Maxwell Car…

My First Real Car

With a little more time on my hands these days, partly due to the pandemic, I have been thinking of things long gone by. Some of my thoughts are about the many, many cars that have passed through my hands. I would have to start with the very first, which was a nice 1936 Chrysler coupe. It has a straight 8 engine with a floor mounted 3 speed and overdrive. I was only 14 1/2 years old, so I could not legally drive. But I convinced my dad that I…

Hot Rod, The Movie

A follow-up to Don and Gloria’s ’40 Ford story in the April 2021 issue. By Larry J. As it turns out, I was at Fremont drag strip when they filmed the movie. The “Hot Rod Willys” raced against an Olds Cutlass that was painted like a “laced Easter egg” (cool in the 70’s). The movie plot was kind of like a Western. The hero rides into a town that has a rich bad guy with a bad son. The bad guy has the Sheriff under his thumb. The bad son…
