Roamin Angels Swap Meet

On June 25th, 25 local and regional vendors gathered at the Nevada City Elks Club #518 to sell new and used auto parts and memorabilia. The Elks Lodge generously provided the outdoor space free of charge. In return they sold a delicious rib lunch and opened their bar. The American Legion provided a shuttle bus to the Rood Center for vendor parking.  Most vendors seemed happy with their sales despite the very hot weather. Several Board Members and Roamin Angels helped to make this a successful one-day fundraiser for our…

Ananda 2022

Several Roamin Angels made the trek up to Nevada City to the Ananda community for their Springtime at Ananda and the blooming of over 17,000 tulips. The Saturday before Easter rained so some people visited on Easter Sunday and others on other days. The gardens were beautiful and the views were spectacular. Ananda’s staff of gardeners and others were available to answer questions. To know more, visit crystalhermitage.org. Note: the women in the ornate dresses were visitors from Peru. – photos by Edie & Bud H.

Bowling for Scouts

The American Legion raised $2,000. to support our local scout troops and at the championship tournament, the local VFW – another Veterans group, donated another $1,000. The money raised is to try and help all these kids return to a normal life. Help them get out and do stuff that we or our kids did as Boy and Girl Scouts back in the day. The three weekends of bowling were held after the Scout troop leaders provided me with the kids’ wish list. Thanks to other generous businesses like Big…

Roamin Angels Sign

It was a sunny afternoon many years ago, I was cruising over to my friend Lanny Netz’s house. I decided to  get off  Hwy. 49 at McKnight Way to pick up a 6-pack. As I slowed down, I took the time to look at the ‘Welcome to Grass Valley Memorial’ sign and  the local service clubs displayed  there. The  Odd Fellows,  Kiwanis, two or three Rotary Clubs and a few others. When I got to Lanny’s we got into a discussion about the sign and the organizations displayed. They were…

A Trip Back into Automotive History

A while back my wife, Peggy, and I were passing through Detroit.  Along with visiting the Motown Studio complex we decided to take in the Piquette Avenue Ford plant.  This is one of the most significant automotive heritage sites in the world as this is where Henry Ford designed the Model T. The building was constructed in 1905.  It was the Ford Motor Company’s first purpose built factory.  The Ford Models C, F, K, N, R, S and the Model T were all assembled here.  The Model T was introduced…
