Ananda 2022

Several Roamin Angels made the trek up to Nevada City to the Ananda community for their Springtime at Ananda and the blooming of over 17,000 tulips. The Saturday before Easter rained so some people visited on Easter Sunday and others on other days. The gardens were beautiful and the views were spectacular. Ananda’s staff of gardeners and others were available to answer questions. To know more, visit crystalhermitage.org. Note: the women in the ornate dresses were visitors from Peru. – photos by Edie & Bud H.

Bowling for Scouts

The American Legion raised $2,000. to support our local scout troops and at the championship tournament, the local VFW – another Veterans group, donated another $1,000. The money raised is to try and help all these kids return to a normal life. Help them get out and do stuff that we or our kids did as Boy and Girl Scouts back in the day. The three weekends of bowling were held after the Scout troop leaders provided me with the kids’ wish list. Thanks to other generous businesses like Big…

Roamin Angels Sign

It was a sunny afternoon many years ago, I was cruising over to my friend Lanny Netz’s house. I decided to  get off  Hwy. 49 at McKnight Way to pick up a 6-pack. As I slowed down, I took the time to look at the ‘Welcome to Grass Valley Memorial’ sign and  the local service clubs displayed  there. The  Odd Fellows,  Kiwanis, two or three Rotary Clubs and a few others. When I got to Lanny’s we got into a discussion about the sign and the organizations displayed. They were…

A Trip Back into Automotive History

A while back my wife, Peggy, and I were passing through Detroit.  Along with visiting the Motown Studio complex we decided to take in the Piquette Avenue Ford plant.  This is one of the most significant automotive heritage sites in the world as this is where Henry Ford designed the Model T. The building was constructed in 1905.  It was the Ford Motor Company’s first purpose built factory.  The Ford Models C, F, K, N, R, S and the Model T were all assembled here.  The Model T was introduced…

Kinda Like Old Times

Those of you attending our Roamin Angel’s yearly meeting in February heard me talk about efforts to help jump start the Grass Valley Downtown show. Hopefully we’ll stop adding COVID in these conversations as a variable, but in this case it was still in the mix.  The staffing and management of the GVDA changed, the Mill Street refurbish schedule was still in the air, the State & County rules remained variables.   COVID  v.s. Cars! The good news is it’s all coming together. The reason ? ……Us. We had the…

Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser

The Vets put on a spaghetti fundraiser for the local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. About twenty Roamin Angels attended to support the event. The dinner was delicious and it was great to see the younger generations involved with these great organizations.  Several people took advantage of the Girl Scouts selling cookies.  It was a fun event and evening.
