Future Cool

I rarely watch racing from start to finish but Jean was out of town. settled in to watch F1 racing delayed and NASCAR live each featuring a couple of hometown kids. I remember Alexander Rossi in the shop with his Dad when they owned “BP landscapes”. Good family, nice kid, RA scholarship winner. There he is with a shot to become the first American to finish in the top 10 in F1 since some guy named Andretti. A thousand miles to the East of Austin, my Ex Neighbor is racing…

Sixteen Classic Cars Up In Smoke

By John Sweeney & Ken Albers • Reprint courtesy of Cruisin News, Oct. 2020 I very seldom watch the TV news, but on a day that I did I saw the Vacaville fire taking place and I saw some classic Chevies on fire. Later, I see pictures and go check our subscriber database. The cars that I saw were Ken Albers’ Collection in Vacaville.  I felt helpless. I tried calling his number, but of course  his phone was dead.  A week or so goes by and I finally get in…

Drive By for WWII Pilot Veteran Dub Holland’s 100th birthday

Sunday, September 13th at 2 p.m. Chuck Barnhart, President of Rods and Relics in Lincoln Hills Yesterday I had the honor of thanking a true American Hero during Dubs 100th birthday drive-by.  He served in the Army Air Corp as a B-17 pilot over Europe.  These men had a 50/50 chance of making it back after a mission.  They had to fly at least twenty-four missions over heavily armed targets.   We arrived at the facility a little after 2PM with a crowd waiting outside in the entry way.  Dub…

Birthday Salute: USS Arizona Survivor Louis Conter Turns 99

World War II Veteran And USS Arizona Survivor Lou Conter From Bob N.: “If you were not able to make the drive-by celebration for Mr. Lou Conter, I only hope you read the article in the Union paper. Just pulling up at Nevada Union high school to queue up for the tour by his house, was overwhelming. I had no idea the city had this many vehicles. The Police, Fire and Sheriff trucks, not to leave out the old cars of the Roamin Angles was incredible. Lou Conter was not just a…

GVDA Poker Cruise

Saturday, Oct. 3, 2020. We all had a great time at the “Car Poker Cruise” Saturday October 3rd. Some 40+ cars signed up to support downtown businesses by parking in town and exploring the 13 stops on the “cruise”. Because of those 40 car owner’s generosity, approximately $600 was raised to help Grass Valley’s Downtown Association support the town’s business activities. I was on site talking pictures and tried to anonymously watched the civilians stop at the various cars and check them out. Just like at “Cars and Coffee” and…

Lake Wildwood’s 6th Annual Car Show

October 3, 2020. The event seemed to have a great turnout.  The ’54 Cadillac that won the People’s Choice was out of San Jose.  The owner of ‘that car was interviewed.  Many awards were handed out for a variety of categories.  Ray S. got one for his Cobra.  Other members may have received awards, but I do not know many of them yet.  The show had a capacity for 80 vehicles and there were 75 on display.  As a side note, every generation of the Corvette was represented at the…
