How is that Bucket List coming along?

Is it time to check off a trip to the Bonneville Salt Flats Speed Week?

Right now, we are just asking if you would be interested in joining other Roamin’ Angels and their friends for a trip to the races next August.

Speed Week starts August 10th but the plan is to be there from Monday the 12th through Wednesday the 14th. Of course, you could stay more days, if you wish.

Wendover (the town adjacent to the race tracks) is on I-80 at the Nevada/Utah border.  It is about a 7-1/2 hour drive from Grass Valley.  It can be done in one day, or there are several sizeable towns on the way if a person wants to make it a two-day drive.

Not only are there attempts to set new speed records for a number of classes each day on the two tracks, but there are other things to do in Wendover.  There are several large hotel/casinos and the old army/air force base which is where the crew on the Enola Gay trained prior to dropping the atomic bomb on Hiroshima ending WWII.  There is a very nice visitor center on the base depicting that history making event.

Lodging fills up fast for Speed Week.  They start taking room reservation in a couple of months. Self-contained RV’s can park for free on BLM land just off the highway. Peggy and I spent 3 days during Speed Week several years ago.  We found the variety of vehicles from little 2 wheelers up to semi-trucks very interesting.  We also were impressed how friendly the people were.

Right now what I need to know – is if there is enough serious interest in putting this trip together?  If so, I will send out detailed information to those who will be joining us.

If you are interested give me a call or send an email with your contact information before November 10.  No texts please.
