Happy Birthday Lou! Honoring Our Local American Hero
Grass Valley resident and retired U.S. Navy Lt. Commander Lou Conter, celebrated his 102 birthday on September 13. Conter is the last surviving member of the U.S.S. Arizona and was on board the ship the morning of Dec. 7 1941 when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, sinking the Arizona among other ships and sparking the United States’ direct involvement in WWII. There was a small parade by Lou’s home to honor and celebrate our local American hero.
