Career Technology Education – Mentoring Help Needed

As most of you are aware, I’ve spent a few years involved with the High School district in reviving their Career Technology Education programs. CTE is the new name for ROP which most everyone remembers. Think auto shop, Ag Mechanics, Ag Science, Welding, and Culinary arts just to name a few. I’m a big believer in hands on education whether it’s any of the above or Bio Physics.

I need your help.

Nevada Union is looking for a mentor to help with Auto shop senior projects. Briefly, you’ll meet a few kids who will tell you about their Senior project. That will serve to inform you as well as break the ice with the kids. In a few months you’ll review their progress and offer tips. At the conclusion you’ll judge how well the project lived up to the plans.

With Covid, the meetings I have been involved with are focused on Bear River students (yes, there are car crazy people at Bear River) and have been over ZOOM. That likely will continue. Your time commitment is typically a few hours over the entire process. 6- 8 hours over a few months time. If it does work out that you can meet in person to see their project then we’ll make that work.

If you’re interested, I need to know ASAP. It’s been difficult with the covid limits for the kids and teachers. Since most of us have worked at a gas station back in the day, worked on your bomb(s), or are an expert mechanic….you know enough to be a mentor and help these kids and this Country. Step up please. Have some other skills you’d like to share with America’s future? Let me know as well and I’ll get you on the mentor list.
