Message from Club President, Jim Richards

Now that 2020 is here we will have a car show at the fairgrounds. It was a shock to the club to learn only a few days after the last car show that our normal date at the fairgrounds was changed. This prompted a search for a new fairgrounds date or a different venue. In casual conversation with members many ideas were proposed. They included moving the show to the Auburn Fairgrounds, Yuba City Fairgrounds, several golf courses, Western Gateway Park, Rollins Lake, Scotts Flat Lake, and others.

These sites were investigated by myself, Ron Carmichael and Ray Yedding. The board thought that the membership should decide. A meeting was proposed to vote on the most acceptable venue. Also many of you proposed that we hold a Saturday-only car show instead of Saturday and Sunday show. A vote was held at the meeting on January 21st and the outcome was to have a Saturday-only show at the Nevada County Fairgrounds.

The major issue with the other venues was there was virtually no way to have ample parking for show goers and no way to collect a gate fee without a fence. The gate fee is a major source of income.

Many thanks to the people who attended that meeting and cast their votes. Now we are ready to plan the 2020 car show. Please offer your help in staffing the show. Ron Carmichael and I will be the show managers this year. We plan to use food trucks for the

Friday night meals. The usual Treat Street vendors will provide food for Saturday along with some of the truck vendors. The rest of the show will be similar to before with the exception of fewer trophies given out to expedite the process. We are asking some of our younger friends from the Scouts and other organization to help set up the tables and other heavy lifting and clean up to assist the membership.

This was a tough nut to crack and I hope that the 2020 car show will be a huge success as our past shows have been. Best wishes to you all for the new year.

Question to the Editor: Why does our club newsletter and website include information from the local American Legion Post #130?

How many of our club members are Veterans? Quite a few. Whether they served at home or abroad, in WWI, WWII, Korea, or the Mid-East or whereever their service time was spent, our club honors all veterans and all of those who served, in whatever capacity.

The past few events that the American Legion hosted or sponsored (dinner, and movies), a large number of club members attended the events. Many of our members might not be aware of such events were it not for our club’s eblast with the event information. Since those members showed up and showed their support for the local American Legion, it is only right that our club also shows our support. A simple e-blast is easy.

So much is changing in what is offered in our community to support Veterans. By partnering with the local American Legion, we can help keep our club members abreast of what is available to them. It’s the right thing to do.

If you’d like more information about Post #130 you can visit their website (https://www.gvlegionpost130.org) or talk with Mike Hauser (Adjutant), Claude Hessel (Commander) or Ray Yedding (Post Member).

God bless America, our Veterans and those currently serving.

With appreciation,
Diane Blakley
