Hot August Nights 2024

Hot August Nights

August 5-8, 2024 • Submitted by Don M.

Went up to Hot August Nights in Reno and had a great time! Many of the Roamin Angels have been there a time or two, I would imagine. It was the first time that I stayed for more than a day and entered my car. I took my ‘55 Chevy. It seemed very proud to be entered with so many fine automobiles!

The whole week of Hot August Nights is so massive and there is so much going on in the Reno-Sparks area, you can’t really take it all in at a week’s time. You just kind of pick and choose certain events. The organization to put it on must be incredible. I spoke with a volunteer, who happened to be from Grass Valley, who said there were 6,000 cars and 450 volunteers this year. There were some amazing cars there as you might imagine. I wish I could have stayed longer. I tried to talk to as many car folks and take some good pics for the newsletter, but it was hot and I did a lot of walking…They don’t call it Hot August Nights for nothing!

I was a little tired after the second day but I did get back out on Wednesday and ‘sucked it up’ for the Roamin Angels. I think I will look into a golf cart for next year! I mainly went to shows at the Grand Sierra and the Peppermill where I also stayed. I think I am going to rework my schedule for next year God willing, to include the Atlantis show and get in the cruise at the Nugget or the strip in downtown Reno. I was kind of playing it by ear and did’nt know how it all worked this year. I have a better idea now that I went. There were people from all over the country. South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Arizona, Utah, couple from Canada was registering with me on Wed. morning at the Grand Sierra. It seems that many people follow the car show circuit around the country and many trailer their cars. It sounds like a fun way to enjoy the summer.

I met some really nice folks from the “Misfits” cars club in Reno who let me sit in the shade with them at the Peppermill show. They were familiar with the Roamin Angels and follow Marty from Grass Valley’s Cars and Coffee. I told them I would like to stay in contact and would maybe come up to participate in some of their events. They were happy to have me. I am long winded. I guess that is all for now. I would like to do a little more for next year as it such a big event. – Your Roving Reporter, Don
