Had a very good turnout for the Car Show wrap up this past month. Thanks to all the involved and interested members for making the effort.

So what are the take aways?

Attendance remained at the recent numbers. Roughly 650 cars/vehicles being displayed over the weekend with an additional 15-20 comp’ed for purposes of promotion and attraction. The gate, like the car numbers, was about the same at roughly 3000 paid attendees. Down slightly from 2017.

Bottom line?

Our bottom line was improved over last year with some cost savings and we’ll be able to continue to support our activities and programs.

One piece of good news I just received should help with the 2019 attendance numbers. The committee staging the Constitution Day parade and activities in Nevada City our same weekend is considering moving their date back by a week. Not set in stone yet but it’s on their agenda.

The why? What goes round, comes round is the basic answer. We’ve done some good things for some local Non profits and those people (car Guys and Gals by the way) want to return the favor. Not in stone yet…but it’s the thought that counts. Now if I can only get those Duck guys to head South sooner……

The show’s assessment and review committee’s recommendations have been submitted to the Board for review and dissemination to the general membership. Some of those recommendations cannot effectively be implemented for 2019. It’s hard to make major rudder adjustments with some of the Directorships in question or relatively new Directors in place. In this, my last year as Show Chairperson, many recommendations can and will be implemented.

One of the critical factors in the survival of this show and frankly the Club is the membership. We reflect the same problems that Rotary, Lions, Elks and other non profits have. Our solution is their solution which is to proactively grow and retain the membership and grow it younger. It’s absolutely correct in stating that membership is everyone’s problem. I urge you to encourage friends, family and the car guys and gals you meet to join and participate. Know and tell our story, Toy Drives, Teen Safe Driving, Retirement home visits, cruises, meals, adventures, games, Veterans, camaraderie. Be the person who welcomes new members that have joined. Take them under your wing. Be the person that envelopes current members in activities. Renew their spirit build their passion.

Membership does need to be addressed on a larger, coordinated scale however. Programs, advertising, enticements, marketing, exposure, retainment…that can only be done by the Board.

Here are the vacancies and current show Directors for 2019. The message is please step up for one of the vacant positions so we can make the 20th version of “Cruisin the Pines” a great show. Some of the open Directorships are critical and need to be filled soon. If they aren’t by the time we need to go to print those activities will be eliminated I’m sorry to say.
